One of many famous montage artists Mattew Cusick captures the artistic eye of others with his re-contextualiez images of words,numbers, and maps to create all types of collages. Using people and landscapes to illustrate a new story with his montages. Such as, his earliest work Transamerica,2004 in (Inlaid maps on panel) shows his patriotic creativity of an American muscle car that explores his value of america's classic cars. Another one of his works is Bonnie,2004 also (Inlaid maps on panel) is a photofo a African American woman that has a depressing look on her face. In this montage he expresses a idea of struggle of most African American women. Also his latest work Course of Empire (mixmaster 2),2006 in (Inlaid maps, acrylic,on panel).Many can ponder the idea where does the highways or interstates goes leads to? This type of montage creates movement that makes others interested. Also, the different color values of the maps in the montage makes the flow interesting. My opinion about Mattew Cusick is that he is an excellent contemparary montage artist.
